Time to Check In on Independent Reading

We have not blogged about what we are reading for fun in a long time, and we all know that books can really add a lot of joy to your life! I always like to have a good fiction book around...like a good friend. Lately, I have been reading a book called At the Water's Edge. This book is historical fiction, and it is for enjoyment. Historical fiction is based on historical events and people that are true but the story is fiction. Books can be entertaining and POWERFUL! Please write 4 to 5 sentence about the book you are reading right now. Be sure to the correct capitalization and punctuation.

Young Bull

Young Bull was treated unfairly, because he was forced to leave his family.  He was forced to build houses all by himself.  He was forced to learn a new language, which was English.  He tried to run away, but the guards caught hims and placed a metal ball and chain on his ankle.  Hi ankle became bruised and damaged.  Luckily, a kind teacher cared for him and helped him remember that he would always be an Indian on the inside.

Tuesday, December 4, 2018

As good readers we all use reading strategies to improve our reading skills and our reading comprehension. The most important part of reading is to understand what you are reading, and that is why we use reading strategies. It makes reading more enjoyable and a lot more fun when you connect to what you are reading and give a shout out to others about the great book you are reading. Please tell us about your favorite reading strategy or strategies that you use when you are reading and why you like them. Be sure to write four to five complete sentences with the correct punctuation and capitalization.

Persistence

Today we read the book The Girl Who Ran by Bobbi Gibb, and we talked about the stance persistence.  Persistence means to never give up, to stick it out and to keep trying. Persistence is when you stick with something even when it is hard.
Bobbi knew in her gut that she wanted to run. It was a part of her, and she listened to that voice, even though many other voices told her she couldn't and shouldn't. Even though her dad did not support her, she persisted. She didn't have friends who shared her interest, she didn't have the right shoes and clothes, and she didn't have any races to join. But she went on anyway.
Please write about a time when you showed persistence in something that you did. Please write 4 to 5 sentences in complete sentences with the correct capitalization and end marks.
