Living History

I had a wonderful time listening to the fourth graders give their Living History speeches! As I was listening, my brain was surfing for new learning and fun facts. Also, I noticed that many of the famous people featured demonstrated many of the stances such as flexibility, persistence, empathy, resilience, and optimism that lead to their successes.

Please share your new learning, fun facts and/or thoughts about the important mindset stances of these famous people. Please write four to five complete sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation.

  1. I think that the person that did Michael Jordan did a amazing job because he talked very slowly, he waited for you to write down your facts it was great! I thought that he had a lot of flexibility because he waited for us to write things down, when he probably wanted to keep going with his speech! But not only did the person that did Michael Jordan had mindsets so did the real one! When Michael was a kid his favorite sport was baseball, but with his brother he played basketball in the front yard. He was really bad at first, but he had persistence and he kept going, and he finally became one of the most greatest basketball players of all-time.

  7. Going to Living History was SO. MUCH. FUN!!!!!😊I learned a lot and a lot of kids were really good at memorizing their lines and hardly stopped to think at all! My group and I went to various different people. Including Laura Ingles, Jackie Robinson, William Hoy, Jane Goodall, Milton Hershey, and many more. I learned that...... Los Angeles Dodger's Jackie Robinson was the first African-american baseball player to wind up in the hall of fame. And that Steve Jobs was a prankster as a child. He put whoopee cushions one his teacher's chair and gum in his sister's hair. Did you know that Frida Kahlo was riding on a bus when it suddenly crashed? She had injured her knee and had to stay in the hospital for six months. While she was there she learned to paint. She paints pictures to express her feelings and her pain.(That's probably the reason her paintings are so sad πŸ˜” 😞.). After that, she married another artist named Diego Rivera. He had had six previous wives. You can guess how their marriage went. Jane Goodall was born in London and became interested in animals at a very young age. She discovered a man named Louis Leakey, who recognized her love for animals. He offered her a job to go to Kenya and study chimpanzees. So she went with her mom and set up camp there for 2 months. Goodall is 84 years old today. I could go on, but there would be no more room. I am super excited to be a person in Living History. I want to either be Jackie Robinson , Sally Ride or Nadia Comaneci.

  8. Living History was SO FUN AND INTERESTING! Did you know, Nadia Comaneci was the first gymnast in the Olympics to make a perfect 10? Wilma Rudolph was born during World War II and died at the age of 54. Another thing I learned was Bill Gates made the X-box and became a billionaire. He had 2 sisters and got in trouble alot when he was younger. He was a very big prankster. I also learned that Noah Webster wrote the first dictionary! I already new that Milton Hershey made the Hershey Company, but I learned that his chocolate was the most famous chocolate of his time! Steve Jobs became a really smart man, but he failed most of the time in his studies as a child. But when he was older he had an idea with his friend to create the Apple Company. He made all the iphones, ipods, macbooks, desktops and all the other Apple products. Jane Goodall Loves the outdoors and when she was still a toddler her parents gave her a stuffed chimpanzee. Today she is still alive and she started an organization to help the chimpanzees and rainforest. Muhammad Ali aka Jack Susman did not tell us his speech. I think it was because Ben was in our group and Ben is his enemy. He just kept saying "I'm just gonna take a break" and then he would sit down. I learned that Amelia Earhart has the same birthday as me on July 24th! She was also the first woman to fly a plane! Colin Powen was a General in the Vietnam War. Lou Gehrig was born on June 13, 1903. The only bad part of this whole experience was all the people were talking too fast so it was difficult to catch the information each person had to tell us. I can't wait to be in the Living History next year! I want to either be Amelia Earhart, Jane Goodall or Nadia Comaneci. Even if I could be a boy i would not want to be one even though people like Alyssa would.

Did you know Althea Gilson skipped school to go play tennis and that Wilma Rudolph was four pounds when she was born! I can't wait for Living History next year!

  10. I liked Living History. My favorite was Michael Jordan. I learned he put salt in his shoes everyday to help him get taller. This shows he was optimistic that it would help him grow and be better at basketball. Now he is one of the best basketball players ever.

Her favorite color was pink. When she grew up she had a happy marriage with a millionaire! Mae Jemison was born October 17 1956 when she grew up she wanted to be a scientist but she became the first ever African Amarican woman to go to space.

  13. I loved the living history the forth graders did a grate job. Nellie Bly had 22 siblings and they all loved the color pink. the weird thing about her is that nobody ever knew when she was born and she died when she was 57. Laura Ingalls moved more than 30 times in her life and she was 1 out of 5 children. She was born February 7, 1861 and died when she was 90 on February 10, 1957. Next year when I become a 4th grader for living history I want to be Nadia Comaneci.
