The Wolf Girls: An Unsolved Mystery from History!!!

Were there really wolf girls?  Were two girls ages 2 and 8 really raised by wolves?  This is a true story, sort of.  The two girls were brought to an orphanage in India in 1920.  They could not speak.  They ran around on all fours and ate raw meat.  Joseph Singh, the person who brought the girls to the orphanage, said he found the girls in a wolf den.  We have only Mr. Singh's journal as evidence that the girls were found in a wolf den.  Some people who saw the girls said they acted like animals, but that's not really proof that the girls were raised by wolves.  Did Mr. Singh make it all up?  Were the girls really raised by wolves?  Did they not speak because they had a mental or physical problem?  Or were they just abandoned by their family and raised by a kind man?  Those are the four most popular theories given.  Are any of them right?  Nobody knows for sure.  It is a mystery still waiting to be solved. Which theory do you like best or do you have your own theory of what happened to the wolf girls of Midnapore, India?  Please share your theory with us in three to four well written sentences.  Be sure to tell us why you believe in that theory.

  1. I think that they were really raised by wolves because they couldn't talk and stand on two feet. Also, they were found ill. Plus the little one died from a disease and she probably got it from the wolves.

  2. I think they were raised by wolfs because they acted like they were and did things the wolfs did like howl at night and doesn't sleep at night so that is why I think they were raised by wolfs. I am surprised the wolfs did not eat the 2 year old and the 8 year old children that lived with them. I think the first and the third story are made up. Because the third story it tells you in the book that Mr. Singh wrote the story and the first story it tells you that he was lying when the doctor came to the place where Mr. Singh had to raise them. My theory is that the girls were raised by wolfs.

  3. I don't think they were raised by wolves. Maybe they had some mental or physical problems when they were young and the parents sent them in to the forest, because they couldn't figure out how to care for them. This was a long time ago, so maybe they didn't have the right doctors or medicines to help and the parents didn't know what else to do.

  4. I think that the wolf girls' parents did not have enough money to take care of them and they left the girls out in the wild. The villagers found and took them back to the orphanage. The girls were not raised by wolfs. Mr. Sing made up 3 stories to get money for his orphanage.

  5. I think that they were not raised by wolves and the parents left them in the forest. And that somebody found them. Then they took them to the orphanage and Mr. Sing thought he could make money so he made some crazy story.

  6. I think that they were not actually raised by wolves. I also think that Mr. Singh was making everything up. I think he was just trying to make money for the orphanage. I don't think a child could be raised by a wolf without getting eaten. Although I do wonder if there really are feral children. I like this book because it keeps me wondering. I had a lot of lingering questions including: Why did Mr. Singh lie? How did he find them? Did the girls ever exist? This book kept me on the edge, and I can't wait to read more books by the author of this book!

  7. I think that Mr. Singh is telling the truth and making some of it up. What I do believe from the book is that when it said that they were raised by wolves because it said they could not talk real language or walk on two legs. But what I don't really believe is when it said he found the girls and the wolves in the termite hill. I don't really get that because how could they get in there? So the story that made the most sense, was probably story 3.

  8. I think Mr.Singh dressed his doughter up and made up another kid and said she died. I also think it might of been story number two where people find them in the wild and thought they where raised by wolves. I wonder if the book was based of a true story. Those are the storys I thought where what really happend.

  9. I dont think they were raised by wolves.Cause there is no such thing that the wolves can raise a person. There parents probably did not have enough money to keep the girls so they left them in the forest.

  10. I think Mr.Singh made everything up. He just wanted the money for the orphanage. I wonder if there is such thing as a feral child? I wonder how long have the girls been in the forest? If they were ever really in the forest! Was the book based on a true story?

  11. I think they were not raised by wolves. I think they got worms from eating the raw meat because they were too hungry. They definitely had parents, so did the parents die? leave them in a forest? I think Mr. Singh made it all up. I don't think Story 1,2,or3 was true. Mr. Singh could have been a bad man, did Mr. Singh do something to the parents? How long were they in the forest? the mama was still there when the 8 year old girl was 6 years old because she was having a baby. So its weird that the 8 year old girl could not talk. My theory is Mr. Singh was a bad man.

  12. I think the girls did not even exist . The reason I think this is because they should of lived way less years and a question I have is how did the people know how old the children were ? And I agree with hunter , I think Mr.Singer is a bad man. I think he was very greedy because in the book he would take money that was offered . I think the girls did not exist because why make so many stories up ? why not just leave it to the truth ? So that is why I think they don't exist.

  13. I think the girls were left in the woods by their parents because they had problems and their family did not want to take care of them. The girls were probably found a week or a month later without knowing how to speak or walk. They were possibly left at the orphanage because the people who found them had no idea who their parents were. The girls could have died of a very bad sickness from eating raw meat.

  15. I think the girls were not raised by wolves. I think they were dropped by their parents about 2 weeks before because it is physically impossible to live with wolves. I think they just were very sick and they had to eat raw meat because there was no other food. In the book when they were found with the wolves, they may have just gotten there first and then the wolves came. The girls were afraid of the wolves and the wolves were afraid of the villagers. I think Mr. Singh did not really care about them because he did not really try to help them or get any doctors to help them. Well that is my report. bye

  16. I think the girls were raised by wolves...
I this because they walk on all 4 and eat raw meat.
I think there parents abandoned them in the woods and the 2 girls were raised by wolfs.
Since they kinda lived in the woods most there life they didn't know how to walk up right , talk, or read.

  17. I think that the girls were raised by wolves because they ate raw meat, they walked on four legs. One of my questions was why did they stay with the wolves and why didn't they try to find humans? I agree with DJ and Hunter that Mr. Singh was a bad man because although he was not charging a fee to see the eight year old girl, he gladly took donations from people who offered it.
