Reading Strategies
As good readers we all use reading strategies to improve our reading skills and our reading comprehension. The most important part of reading is to understand what you are reading, and that is why we use reading strategies. It makes reading more enjoyable and a lot more fun when you connect to what you are reading and give a shout out to others about the great book you are reading. Please tell us about your favorite reading strategy or strategies that you use when you are reading and why you like them. Be sure to write four to five complete sentences with the correct punctuation and capitalization.

When I am reading a book and I don't know what a word means, I either ask an adult that is close by, or write the word down somewhere so that I can look it up later. When I can't pronounce an word, I do the exact same. Sometimes when I don't know what is happening in the book, I just look back in the book and see if there are any context clues about what is happening. Part of the reason why I like reading is because you can learn things from even the tiniest and most fictional books.
ReplyDeleteWhen I can't read a word I skip over it and see if I can still understand the sentence. If I can't I ask an adult. When I don't understand a sentence I read it over and over to see if it makes sense. When I can't understand a word I ask an adult.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm reading a book and I don't understand the sentence. I just keep reading or I ask an adult. Also if I can't pronounce a word I will ask a teacher or an adult. when I finish a book and get a new one I usually read the summary on the back of the book or flip through some pages and if I like it I'll take it but if I don't I put it back in reading some more books summaries.
ReplyDeleteWhen I don't know what a word means I skip the word and read the rest of the sentence and then come back to the word. And if I don't know how to pronounce a word I try to sound it out. If I don't know what is happening in a book I go back a few sentences and reread it. And if I want to find I good book I either read the back or the first page. I love reading!
ReplyDeleteMy strategy is to get in a quiet place. I sometimes skip words so it makes me confused so I go back and read the page again. I like reading in my head because if I read a hard book out loud I mix up the words. If I don’t understand something I read the sentence to get a better understanding.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a book when I stumble across a word I don’t know then I will ask an adults or sound it out. Also when I was reading but I don’t like what I do is I just stop reading it. Also if I come back to your book I can re-read. Also sometimes it nonfiction book there are captions If you can’t read the captions then you would ask an Adult. I love reading so much!

DeleteWhen I have trouble reading a word I read it in chunks. I just divide it into other short words I know. Another stradigie I use is sounding out the word and then prononcing it to make sure it makes sense. Sometimes if all of that fails I see if someone has said the word to me and read it that way.
