Science Test on Bridges and Electricity!!!

Make Mrs. Sayuk and myself proud! Teach me some information about circuits and electricity. Teach me also about bridges. Impress me with your knowledge.  Write at least three well written sentences about electricity and write three well written sentences about bridges.  Use your notes and review if you need to!!!  Have fun!!!

The Corpus Christi Bridge!!!

  1. This is what I learned in Science. Tension meaning pulling on a object. Compression means pushing on an object. Anchors is what holds down the object. A short circuit is a circuit that does no work. Magnetism and electricity are related. Conductors are stuff that allows electricity to flow through them easily.

  2. I know that suspension bridge has a deck, hanger, cable, towers, foundation, approach, span, dead load, live load, and an anchor.
I know that an Arch bridge has a keystone, deck, abutments, arch, dead load, approach, and a live load.
I know that a truss bridge has trusses, span, pier, deck, and an approach.
I know that a beam bridge has a span, pier, approach, and a deck.
I know that a cable-stayed bridge has cables, towers, span, deck, and an approach.

I know that a short circuit does no work.
I know that a parallel circuit wears out a battery 2 times as fast.

Those are some things that I know about bridges and electricity.

  3. These are some things that I learned in science. First, I learned that to make a light go on, it has to have a battery and it has to be in a full circuit. Another thing that I learned in the electricity unit was that a conductor let's electricity flow though it and insulators don't. Short circuits can cause fires. In the bridge unit I learned about tension and compression. Tension is a pulling force and compression is a pushing force. I also learned that arch bridges are very strong because of it's arch. Then, I learned that stone is very strong while being pushed, but not while it is being pulled.

  4. This is what I learned
A cofferdam is built to keep water out when building a pier.
Dead load is the weight of the bridge.
The wooden frame put under an arch bridge while it is being built is called centering.

    Now electricity
A short circuit can not work gets hot/ can start fires and wears out the battery
    A series circuit
    Can dim the lights
And if one goes out,the others go out
    And a parallel circuit
    Both bulbs are bright
One stays lit if the other goes out
Wears out battery twice as fast

And those are some things that I learned about electricity and bridges

  5. I learned that a short circuit does no work. I learned that the dead load is the bridge itself. I learned that in a parallel circuit if you take one lightbulb out the other one stays on.

  6. This is what we learned about bridges in Science. A tower is the tower that holds up the bridge cable which holds up the hangers. A Short circuit can some time get so hot that it can catch on fire and burn down a house!
Insalator is a object that does not let electircity though it.

  7. I learned…..

    Bridges
    *Tension is a pulling force
    *Compression is a pushing force
*Torque is a twisting force that is weight x distance
*A suspension bridge has towers, a deck, a cable, hangers, an approach, live load, dead load (the whole bridge), a span, foundations, and anchors.
*Centering is the wooden frame you put on an arch while it is being built
*For something to balance the forces must be opposite and equal

    Electricity
*The definition of a short circuit is a circuit that does no work
*An atom holds 2 electrons on the first orbit, 8 electrons on the second orbit, and 18 electrons on the third orbit
*In a series circuit if you take out one lightbulb the others go out too
*In a parallel circuit if you take out one lightbulb the others stay on
*The definition of electromagnetism is a magnet that gets it's force of attraction from an electric current

I learned so much in this unit!

  8. The parts of the suspension bridge include the cables, the deck, the aproches, the span, the tower, the hangers, the live load, and the dead load. The short circuit does no work, gets hot and can create a fire. The short circuit will also quickly wear out a battery. The series circuit dims the lightbulbs, but if one light goes out, the rest will also. The parallel circuit makes both bulbs brightly lit. One will stay lit even if the other goes out.

  9. What I know about BRIDGES!!
Another name for a tower bridge is a pier.
A tourqe is a twisting force that is weight times distance.
Compression is a push on an object.
Tension is a stretch or pull on an object.

    What I know about ELECTRICITY!!!!
A circuit that does no work is called a short circuit.
Objects that allow electricity to flow through them easily are called Conductors.
In a parrell circuit all the light bulbs stay lit if one goes out.
Something dangerous about short circuits are that they cab get very hot and burn your house on fire.

  10. I learned that a short circuit does no work, can start fires and can burn you badly. I also learned that in a series circuit, if you unscrew one light bulb, the other one will go out. Finally, in a parallel circuit, both bulbs are bright, if you unscrew one it stays lit but it wears out the battery twice as fast.

    Bridges -
On an arched bridge, before they put in the keystone, they put in something under the arch called centering. When they put in the keystone, it compresses the rest of the bridge.

On a suspension bridge, I can name 8 different parts: live load, tower, deck, hanger, anchor, span, approach and deadload.

An to make a bridge stronger, you put an X or a triangle on the end of it.
    REECE OUT!!!

  11. BRIDGE
    *Tension is a pulling force
    *Compression is a pushing force
*Torque is a twisting force that is weight x distance
*Putting triangles in a bridge makes it stronger

    ELECTRICITY
*A short circuit is a circuit that does no work
*A series circuit if you take out a light bulb the other one stays off
*A parallel circuit if you take out a light bulb the other one goes on
*A short circuit can get really hot and cause a fire.
    GMAN OUT!!!!

  12. This is what I learned. Dead load is the weight of a bridge, another name
for a bridge tower is a pier, and tension is pulling on an object. Compression is pushing on an object. To hold up a bridge better you put a x in it. A egg is really strong because it has many trusses in
it. Electricity and magnetism are related. live load is something on
a bridge. Towers are stronger if they are close together. Bye

  13. ELECTRICITY
I learned that a short circuit does no work. Also a short circuit can start a fire. I also learned that in a parallel circuit if you unscrew one bulb the other will stay on but it runs down the battery quicker.

    BRIDGES
A deck is the thing you drive on. The dead load is the weight of the bridge. The live load is the weight of the things that are on the bridge but not connected.
