The beautiful Julia Ideson Library! The oldest library in Houston!!!
My favorite place was the church we went to. Because we got ring a bell. And we learned about the church it was very interesting. All of us had a really great time there I loved going there.
My favorite place was the shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because we got to play with the toys. I learned that there was credit back then. I also liked ringing the bell because it made a loud noise!!!!!!!!!!!! It was fun going to the Houston Heritage Society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the general store because we got to touch artifacts from the past. My favorite objects were the toys. They were made out of wood and string. My second favorite place was the church. The benches were a little uncomfortable but it was interesting. There was a stove in the middle right next to the aisles which was used for warming the building. There was an organ a piano and the little podium where the priest would usually stand! After the tour we all got to ring a bell that was attached to the bell. Then we went to a log cabin. The house smelled like fresh wood and there were three beds, a table, a fireplace and some windows. Outside there was an outhouse and a log fence which had no nails! Also there was a large pot outside that was used for skinning hogs and washing clothes. When we went to the library we visited the children's room the Texas room and an art room. The art room had lots of paintings of different subjects. There were lots of flowers and portraits. Some were realistic but some weren't. Then we went up to the balcony. The ceiling reminded me of a chocolate bar because of the paneling. All throughout the library there were lots of sculptures and statues. It was so beautiful! I had lots of fun learning about Houston's past and I think all of us had an awesome time!!!!!!!!
I will never forget the church. It was very big. I got to ring the bell. At the top their were no corners so the devil could not hide in the corners. It was built in 1891. Most things were in German. We also went to the second library in Houston! First we saw a mural of the place before it was restored. Then we went to what looked like a ball room. On the ceiling their were mini sculptures of what looked like lily pads. Then we went in to the adult reading section. In that room their was a replica of the Venus De Milo which was in the Louvre. The next room was the childrens reading section. I found one book that I knew, Cat In The Hat by Dr.Suess. Then we went to the Texas Archive. It was huge. We also went to a store that would be there in the 1800's. It had Medicine, a mini post office, pioneer toys, food, and soap. We also saw a video about pioneer things. I didn't know what half of them were, and we studied pioneers. We also saw a real pioneer house. It was built in 1823. A family of 8 lived here and only 3 beds WOW! We saw a real outhouse it was only a hole in the ground. I loved the Houston Heritage society!
I will never forget coming here. It was so fun learning about what things were used for and how you used them. Also what was really cool is the church and the cabin. I will never forget coming here and learning how things worked.
my favorite part was going to the general store.my second favorite part was when we got to go in the old place. we also got to go inside a church it was really cool we got to ring a bell but i didn't really fell like ringing a bell.we also got to see a pretty cool video.
It was fun being able to go to the Houston Heritage Society!!!!!!! My favorite part about the Houston Heritage Society was the GENERAL STORE!!!!! Because we got to try stuff they did back then like the toys kids played with like one game you had a stick with hole at the top and tied to the stick was string and the other end of string was tied to a wooden ball. You tried to throw throw the ball in the air and try to make it land in the hole on the top of the stick. And another game is wear you had a long peace of string and in the middle of the string was a button and 2 nots at the end tied so the button doesn't get lost. This is how you play you spin the string and make the button spin with it then after you spin it you pull the string really tight. There was also in the GENERAL STORE was thng that you make pictures become 3D it was really cool. I really hoped you liked it sorry if I didn't tell you about the other places we visited.
I loved to ring the bell in the churh! It was not very loud!Curches were usally very small as a classroom. In fact they were used as schools! It was very hard to get from one place to another! All grades would be mixed together in one small classroom!
I had a lot of fun at the houston heritage society.I learned a lot, first of all I learned that you don't have to pay money right away when you buy something. You could pay later. I also learned that since you wouldn't have a toilet you would go to the bathroom in a box with a hole and when it was filled up you covered it with dirt.I learned a lot.
My favorite part of the trip was going to the old shop and playing toys that they had back then. I learned a lot about the old artists at the library and a lot about the library. I will never forget going to the old place and seeing what people lived like a long time ago. I had a lot of fun going to the Heritage Society and I learned a lot!!!
Oh my goodness. I had so much fun on our field trip. I could not believe that the old house was literally built in 1823!!! My favorite part of the field trip was going to the old shop. We got to play with the old fashion toys, like the ball with a stick where the ball was attached to a sting witch was connected to a tube with a stick. The object of the game was to make the ball land into the tube. It was pretty hard, but I bet if I lived back then and had a lot of time to practice, I bet I would make it in on the first try! look at the cash register, and see all the things they bout back then at their general store. Next to that I extremely thought the old house was really cool. Using the bed tightener was cool, and I cant believe they sometimes used moss in their mattresses, and the fact that their beds were made out of ropes!!!! And for the fact about out houses that Idid not know was that once it was getting full with your doo, you had to just dig a hole around it and pile it in then move the out house someplace else and use it again! I for sure did not know that!!! I can not believe that they would have to make their house all by themselves, and also the fact that if you lived here in Houston you would have to deal with this heat!!!! Next I really thought that the first stop witch was the library was very nice and when I went inside of all of these places I really felt like a young woman going to mass! It was very neat to see the rope that ringed the bell, and the fact that we got to ring it ourselves! Also about the church bell I thought it would be cool to have one and all the different signs counting on how many times you pulled it. It was the best field trip I have ever had in my hole entire life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a wonderful time today. It was so cool. I saw a church from the 1890s. I saw the old house. They made beds with flattening tools. The house was made of wood.
It was very fun going to the heritage society. In the log cabin, built in 1823, I could barely breathe because there was no air conditioning and it was really hot. The cabin was made out of wood.I will always remember how hot it was. My favorite part was going in to the church and learning about pioneers.

The fild trip was so fun. We saw many different things. My two favorites are probaly the store and Old Place, which was an old log cabin. At the general store we got to play with all the toys the kids played with back then. They only had one store so it had to have everything like toys, cloth and food. I also liked th log cabin. It was so cool to wee how people lived back then. The houses only had one room, soo evrything was in one space. It was a great field trip, and I want to go back again real soon!!!

( NO he was not named after Aston the capital of Texas the capital of Texas was named after him! ) I got to see a duckling that only me and the nice for guide got to see.
