Cheyenne Again

Today, we discussed the difference between plot and theme. We focused on the different themes or big ideas from our book Cheyenne Again.  Please write about some of the themes you discovered in your reading with your partners or what we read-aloud and give examples.  For example,  one theme was about treating the Indians unfairly in school when they taught them lies or left out important facts about their culture and some of the battles they had won.  Please write four to five sentences with the correct punctuation.

  2. Theme is what something means and plot is the actual thing that we are learning about. A kid was taken away from his mom and Dad bc he was Indian and he was treated badly. The plot was his story that he was taken from his family. The theme would be that he does not feel good about being there.

  5. The theme is mean and racism. They tied a chain and ball to his ankle so he could not run away. They cut off his braids and made him wear itchy clothes. They were mean because they took him from his family and he did not have a choice to go or stay.

  8. One of the themes I noticed was SADNESS. The boy was sad when he got taken away and when he could not had to not talk about his culture any more. Another theme I noticed in the book was RACISM. The white people where mean and only let him speak English.

  9. I think the theme was loneliness when White bull said "No huddle of my brothers warm around." and "I will be lonely here". The theme was anger when the white men cut off his braids. The theme was kindness when his teacher put ointment where the chain had rubbed. And the theme was courage when he ran away from the boarding school. There are many themes in lots of books. This book showed an example of one.

  12. I think the most common theme was racism. Graham and I said there was racism when the the wight man said you have nothing to lose. I think I would get angry and lose my temper if someone said that to me. I think the wight man should never had bean that rude.

  13. One of the themes was racism and prejudice because the white men said "SPEAK ENGLISH." Which is not very nice for the Native American culture. It was a very intresting book, but it was kind of sad for me and i got very mad that they would be that mean to native americans. I also thought an other theme was mean becuase when he tried to run away and get back to his tribe "Cheeynne." Because after that they tied a big metal heavy ball to his foot for the rest of the day. I also thought it was mean when they took him away and they said "YOU HAVE LOST NOTHING OF VALUE." Which is saying that he lost his family and his family was not valuble. I would not like to get taken away from my parents and sent to a boarding school with itchy clothes, tiny beds, racism and meanness. It is not accurate to be mean to someone even though they have been mean to you. The Native Americans wasnt even mean to the white men. So it is TOTALLY not accurate to be racist against them and mean against them. The last theme was loneleniss because he was very sad when they cut he/shes hair and when they cut the brades he/she thought about the brades he or shes mom made for he or she. The native american was also lonley when he/she missed their brother and that they missed the horses. I really enjoyed to read that book. But at the same time i didnt. I hope hope me continue learning about these native american things.

  14. The book Cheyenne again was very sad, good, mean, racism and prejudice. In this book on the secont to last page some of the words say " Don't let us take your memories" and i thought that was very kind of the girl who said it. Just think if you were taken away from your parents how would you feel? I would feel very sad and probably be crying. On another page it said "You have lost nothing of value" that is very rude to say about someone about their tribe and also take away what they always ware and replase it with ugly cloths. What if someone took all your cloths and shoes and cut your hair. i really loved this book but it was very mean.

  15. I think that the theme that appeared most often was racism (you should probably know that) because the white men some of these 3 things:

#1They took him away from parents
#2 The tailor took away his old clothes and gave him scratchy new ones
#3 He was put in a dull bedroom that was just a big room filled with rows of beds

that is what I have to say about the story Cheyenne Again.

  17. The safest part was when he left his family at age 10. I didn’t think he should have to learn the white mans ways. They told a lot of lies about history. The happiest part what’s when a teacher gave him salt for his foot.

  19. I think the girl teacher was being nice by giving him salve to rub against his ball and chain burn. There was a lot of racism on page five when taking man said "You have lost nothing of value. On the second page the mother had fear when she was saying RUN RUN HIDE! On page four he was lonley beacease he missed his brothers.
