View to Learn




Please watch this video and write four complete sentences about new information and facts that you learned about the Native Americans!!!  Please also write two sentences on things you are still wondering about.  Also be original and do your own thinking. Be sure to check your grammar and punctuation at the beginning and the end of your sentences.

  1. My first NL is they grow nuts for flower. They also grow corn, sunflower seeds, and beans. And hunted bears, deer, and duck.And fished for trout. The tribes told stories to teach. Tribes can be 500 to 100 people! And my first ? is how did the first people get to land and find it ? And how did they make there tools ?

  2. I learned Cherokee grow corn, squash, pumpkins, sunflower, and beans. I also learned Cherokee made two houses. One for winter and one for summer. I learned Iroquois population is 50 people to 1,000 people. I learned twice a year Mandans empty for the buffalo hunt. My Questions were how long did it take for them to go to american and how many days did it take to git to the grass plans. This is my notes for that video.

  3. I learned that all tribes are different because of where they lived.And that the Chumash used tar that bubbled up from the ground to create seams in their boats. The Pueblo people built adobe houses that could be on top of one another.That families related to each other are called Clans. And here is one of my questions is, why do women do all the farming in the Cherokee tribe? Who discovered that buffalo could be used for so many things?

  4. I learned that the houses were shaped differently. I also learned the different places the tribes settled in. Southeast, Eastern woodlands, great plains, southwest, California inter mountains, and the north west coast. And for my last N.L. I had no idea that people grind acorns for flower. I wonder what the outer part of tipi is made of? I think animal skin. I also wonder why the Cherokee had a had a house for summer and the winter?

  6. I learned that there are so many different tribes and that kids played games similar to football and soccer. I also learned that tribes some tribes pushed buffalos off cliffs so they would die. The pueblo people built adobe houses and I knew a little bit about the pueblo people, because my brother built a clay model. Some of the tribes make two different houses, one for winter and one for the summer. How did the chinook become the best traders? What else did the Makah people hunt, besides hunting whales?

I learned that the natives got all their food from just picked berries and materials from animals like fish, deer, whale, and sheep.I also learned that the Hogans' houses are coned shaped and are made out of wood and straw and all the tribes live in all different biomes, like desserts, plains and, mountains. I do not know why they traded prisoners for thing?. Did the native Americans hunt the same way we do now?

  9. I learned that the natives settled in six basic areas- Southeast, Eastern Woodlands, Great Plains, Southwest, California Inter Mountains and the Northwest Coast. The most popular group in the Southwest were the Cherokee. They lived in the Southern mountains in the river valley. They grew corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, sunflowers and tobacco. They hunted turkeys, deer, squirrels, bears and rabbits. They lived in two types of houses. One for the summer and the other for the winter. The winter home was a round dome and had a wooden door and was made from earth. The Summer home was rectangular and was made out of leather. There was a famous Cherokee who made the first written language.

    Do Native Americans all have the same skin color?

I learned that the people in the Great plans made the buffalo go off a cliff to there death.Also they made different types and the tribes settled in different types of habitats.They adobe furnaces.Chumash discovered tar and used it as a filling in there canoos and all the tribes were using natral reasourses.The Miwok and the Maidu played games simailer to soccer and foot ball.The Yurok tribe made there houses out of red wood tree.I wonder if they switched places what would they do?Also when will there food die out.

  11. I learned that the natives settled in 6 parts of the usa. the main tribe in the south east was the Cherokee. Cherokees had a house for the winter and another one for the summer. Sequoyah made a language for his people. it was the first written language for the natives. They hunted for food. they drove buffalo off a cliff. they used all of the parts of the buffalo including the skin. Some tribes played games like soccer, lacrosse and football. My questions are how did they make up these sports and what did they use for the balls? How did the tribes form?

  12. I learned that the cherokee grew a lot of plants. The iroquois first fought in 5 groups. The mandans and the kiowas used buffalo a lot. The first people came mostly on a land bridge. I wonder if every tribe has colors? where did their names come from?

  13. I learned that most of the women in the families made food and farmed while the men hunted and traded with other villages. Buffalo is important in many areas because the people need them to make blankets, food and clothing out of them. I also learned that adobe is dry clay that is mixed with water and left to dry to build homes. In the southwest the weather can change drastically very quickly. I want to know if there are any more natives that we do not know about that have not been discovered yet? I would like to know how the Natives celebrated different events and what were they called?

  14. I learned that the Cherokees had their own written languages and twice a year they would flee for the buffalo hunt. They used the buffalo for tools and clothing and water jugs and other stuff. The Mandans lived in lodges that were circle shaped and were covered with grass and dirt. The Mandan women did the farming and men did the hunting. The Hopi women made meals in a large oven made out of clay and water called a adobe. The men farmed the fields.

    I wonder why they made ovens out of clay because it seems like it would melt?
    I wonder how they made so much clothing and tools out of buffalo?

  15. After watching a video about Native Americans I've learned that a land bridge formed because of water levels were lowering. Settlers used the land bridge to come to America. Mandans a tribe of the Great plains hunted buffalos. This is how they did it. Men wore buffalo skins as disguises. They came up to the buffalo and screamed making the animals run toward a cliff and fall. I also learned that Cherokee had two types of houses. One for winter and one for summer. The winter houses were shaped like cones. Summer ones were rectangle shaped and open. I wonder how tepees don't catch fire from the camp fire inside them. How dangerous was buffalo hunting and how many people were killed during the hunt.

  16. I learned that when it was low tide people walked across the land bridge. The tribes of North America were different from each other because of where they settled. Every Cherokee village had a chief. The Cherokees became the first tribe to have written language.

    How did the tribes of the Eastern Woodland survive winter and summer?

  17. I learned that the Indians came here from Asia because the water level was so low that they travelled to North America.Christopher mistakenly thought he was in East Asia not America. There were six different tribes-Southwest
    Eastern Wood lands, Great Plains, California Inter Mountains, Northwest Coast. The largest tribe was the Cherokee Indians. They hunted and fished. They also had 2 houses- one for the winter and one for the summer. How long did it take the Indians to travel from Asia to North America?.

  18. I learned that the Mandans were a tribe of Indians. The women would farm and the men would hunt. They lived near the Missouri River and lived in lodges. The southwest was home to the Navajo and Pueblo people. Navajos did not live in villages. They lived in Hogans that were miles apart.

  20. They pasted on stories for generations. The Mandins made buffalo fall off of a cliff for food and skin. The Cherokees often played something called mini war. It is lacrosse but with more people. The Iroquois made long houses out of bark. The Cherokees hunted squirrels, deer, and rabbits. There are lots of interesting facts to learn about the Native Americans.
