  6. I learned that the settlers all started their journey from Independence, Missouri. Many people died of diseases and the native americans were very helpful to them. The women and children walked the whole way. Once they made a train track from the east coast to the west coast people didn't use the Oregon trail as much. I wonder how long it took to build the continental railroad? How many people died on the Oregon trail?

  7. My wonders are: Why were the Indians friendly? What killed off the most pioneers? And my final wonder is, were there many bandits along the way? Here are my facts: In the mid-1700s, more living and farming space was needed. So, to begin a new life, pioneers started to travel west in the mid-1700s. Great Britain thought that the Indians should have their own land. So in 1763, Great Britain passed a law called the proclamation, which said that settlers could not settle past the Appalachians. That law, and many other things, started the Revolutionary War. As settlers embarked on their journey to the new states, the Indians were pushed off their land.

  8. I got 4 facts the first one is: The united states began as a group of 13 colonies that were ruled by great Britain. Number 2: People from Europe migrated to colonies, hoping to find better lives. Number 3: As the number of people living in colonies grew, cites and towns became crowded. Number 4: Great britains government thought that it would be hard to rule the colonies if the kept migrating east.

  10. Some new things that I learned about the westward expansion is that in 1763, the British government passed a law called: The Proclamation of 1763. This law stated that the colonists could not move west of the Appalachians, Because they thought that it would be more difficult to rule over the colonists if they were so far away. I am still wondering how many items that a pioneer was able to take with them along the trip. Also, along the trip, were they ever attacked by highwaymen or bandits? And, did they ever get attacked by Bears, wolves, Coyotes, etc. ???
    Ciao!!!

  11. I learned that the colonists believed that nobody lived west of the Mississippi. They believed it was all desert. They believed in manifest destiny which is the belief that America should stretch across the continent from one sea to the other. By following the Oregon trail settlers changed the landscape of America forever. I have two questions. Where did they sleep at night since their carriages were full of their stuff? How did they have enough for the trip?

  12. I learned a lot from this video. The land beyond Mississippi was
untouched. No settlers had arrived when the natives were living there. They believed in Madafast which was a god. People went out to find caves so the people could go to the West faster. I am wondering why did they travel on horses, did they bring money, and did they have books back then? Well I hope you learned a lot. Thanks for reading.

  14. Here are 4 facts. First, the pioneers had to start at the right time for their journey. The wagons on the trail were called prairie schooners. Prairie schooners were only 1/2 the size of regular wagons. The children had to walk on the trail most of the journey. On good days they traveled at most 15 miles. On bad days they walked at most 1 mile. Now i will tell you 2 questions. My first question is why did they travel to Oregon and why didn't they travel to a different state? My second question is where did they go to the bathroom?

  16. I enjoyed watching this video. Early settlers thought the open plains were like a desert. Why did the early settlers think the open plains were like the desert? Politicians wanted the country to grow. It is called a manifest destiny. What does manifest mean? Explorers and missionaries set out to find a path to the west. What is a missionary? The settlers changed the American landscape forever. How did they change the American landscape forever? Every spring pioneers gather in the middle of Independence, Missouri. That is where the trail started. It was important to start at the right time of the year. If they started too early, the grass wouldn't be tall enough for the cattle to eat. If they started too late, they would risk fighting the winter storms up in the mountains. Doctors and farmers traveled along too. Why did doctors travel with the settlers? Most people never returned to Independence, Missouri. I hope you learned as much as I did. Bye.
